Jak's Bar & Steakhouse

43 Loch Promenade, Douglas IM1 2LZ – 01624 663786

When we asked where to go for casual drinks on our visit near Douglas, the first name we were given was Jak's. A standard bar with a cocktail bar downstairs and a restaurant upstairs. Nothing special but not a dive. A nice, casual place for drinks.

Good burgers and steak in the restaurant upstairs. Seems to be busy most nights so reservations are a good idea especially during the summer. Downstairs is a sports bar that has multiple large screen arrays which shows a great range of different sports and matches.

The Woodbourne

Alexander Drive, Douglas, Isle of Man, IM2 3QF, Douglas IM2 3NS – 01624 676754

Good beer, guest ales usually on tap. Fun quiz on a Sunday night (8.30pm prompt start). Popular pub, but "gastropub"?....... I don't think so! I may be wrong but I'm not aware of them serving food at any time.

A personal favourite of mine. The seats may be falling apart, but the clientele and ambience are so 'local it hurts. Only 4 stars as it's probably not for everyone.

Brendan O'Donnell

16 Castle St, Douglas IM1 2EU, Isle of Man – 01624 621566

Supposedly an Irish pub, well that's the theme anyway, still a good place for a pint and they do a fair bit of music too in the evenings.

I like this pub. Yes, it is Irish, but it does have more than it's fair share of grumpy old scots men, who are dour and surly too, but this sort of thing gives a pub 'character'. The session on a Wednesday night is good.
